IDC 2012 will provide an international forum for development scholars, researchers, policy makers and practitioners to explore the linkages between the three areas that constitute international development work – the integration of research, policy and practice in development. It is the eighth in a series of DevNet (International Development Studies Network of Aotearoa New Zealand) conferences.
We invite high-quality submissions for sessions and individual papers with a particular focus on the conference theme of integrating research, policy and practice. In addition to scholars in development studies, anthropology, geography, history, global health, international studies, political studies and other related disciplines, we also welcome submissions from practitioners and policy makers who can speak to the effective use of research and its findings in increasing the impact of development projects.
Proposals reporting original findings in relation to the integration of research, policy and practice in development are especially encouraged. As well as established topics such as poverty alleviation, indigenous development, feminist and gendered development, trade, livelihoods and aid effectiveness, we also invite papers exploring new facets of international development work, such as new international and institutional actors, innovative partnerships, market-based strategies, climate change, rights-based approaches, south-south collaborations and south-north transfers and the role of new technologies, to name a few.
Send your proposals to idc2012abstract@auckland.ac.nz by June 30, 2012. Acceptance notifications will be emailed after August 31, 2012.
For individual papers, please submit a 250 word abstract and three to five keywords. Please use the format template, which can also be downloaded from the website http://www.idc2012.org.nz
Please also indicate whether you will need to have your full paper peer reviewed early for funding purposes.
For sessions, please submit a 300 word synopsis of the session and three to five keywords as well as individual abstracts for all session members following the instructions above. Sessions can take a variety of formats: regular paper sessions, panel discussions, round tables, workshops and teach-ins.Session proposals should also identify strategies for publications or other dissemination opportunities.
Submitted papers will be peer reviewed and evaluated according to their contribution to research and practice, methodological soundness and quality of writing and analysis. All accepted papers will appear in electronic conference proceedings.
