DevNet Conference 2000 - Poverty, Prosperity and Progress
Poverty is difficult to define, measure, monitor and alleviate,
especially across and within different social groups and cultures.
The conference sought to link local and global wisdom and practice to
foster new visions and approaches towards poverty alleviation and self-determination.
This conference provided an opportunity for participants to analyse
and reflect upon the relationships between poverty and development in
Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas, and to share experiences and lessons
from addressing poverty, prosperity and progress in different places.
Three key themes corresponding to the title were developed to
stimulate thought and encourage connections across the conference.
- Poverty Exploring the parameters of poverty from varying perspectives
and identifying common issues and lessons.
- Prosperity Recognising and measuring the health, wealth and wellbeing
of societies.
- Progress - Envisioning socially and environmentally responsible
and diverse futures.
